Gulf Pilothouse Sailboats - 860-869-7745 - sales@gulfpilothouse.comA brief description and walk thru of a Gulf 32 The Gulf 32 is a great cruising boat not only for its sea kindly manner, but also as a result of its well laid out interior.
Starting at the stern, access to the cockpit is through a two part split railing with a gate. In the rear of the cockpit, a raised helmsman seat opens to provide access to a large locker. The cockpit is large and comfortable. Visibility over the pilothouse is excellent and clearance to the boom is over 6ft. The port and starboard seats have good back support and sport a large flat coaming top that provides another place to sit if so desired. The T-shape and pedestal setup allows for quick easy access to the jib sheets and allows unencumbered movement to other parts of the cockpit. Also in the cockpit you will find a second engine control panel with tachometer and warning lights and a hot/cold water shower. (The main engine control panel is located at the nav station down below.) The port side locker is very large, the starboard locker is shallow and convenient for lines.
The traveler for the mainsheet on the Gulf32 is located on the pilothouse roof, out of the way of you and your guests, yet easy to reach. To move forward, the deck on either side of the pilothouse roof is flat and fairly wide. There are no obstructions to trip on and the pilothouse roof is at a height that provides good handholds via the hand rails. Once past the pilothouse, the deck is slightly bowed, thus creating the extra headroom in the lower salon below. The stays are inboard so again moving forward is easy. The anchor locker has split opening covers and a built in hard spot for either a windlass or sampson post. The custom bronze stanchion posts have an integrally built in loop for clipping safety lines or blocks for roller furling etc.
Access to the upper pilothouse is very easy and safe. No steep ladders into the interior here. Three short steps down and you are in the spacious pilothouse. The windows in the pilothouse provide excellent visibility forward, to either side and aft. They are aluminum framed, powder coated with tempered safety glass. There are a variety of ways they can be ordered, with sliding windows, with sliding screens, fixed screens, tinted etc. To port you find the galley. To starboard a large comfortable quarter berth. It is 6ft 6 inch in length and very wide. The front end of the quarterberth doubles as the seat for the nav station. To the right of the nav station you will find the electrical panels and the inside engine control panel. The optional inside steering station is located near the centerline of the boat. A hydraulic system with a bypass valve, allows quick switching between outside and inside control. The visibility from the pilothouse excellent. The headroom in the upper pilothouse is 6 ft 2 in.
The engine compartment is located below the pilothouse floor. Access to the engine is via a large removable floor panel in the forward part of the pilothouse sole. Standing on the encapsulated ballast, one has great easy access to the fuel tank and its shut off valves, the Racor filter, the raw water filter, and the front of the engine. The Beta Marine 37.5 hp diesel, our choice for the G32, has its bleed screws and fuel filter located on its starboard side near the front of the engine. Both are readily accessible via this engine access. (Older model Gulf's typically have Universal 32's) Another larger section of the pilothouse sole is also removable providing incredible access to the entire engine compartment.
To get to the lower salon from the upper pilothouse is simple and safe via one step. The nav station and the galley provide handholds for safe navigation through this part of the cabin. Once in the lower salon, the first thing one notices is that the headroom is still 6 ft. To port is a 6ft 6in. settee/berth. To starboard is an L-shaped settee/berth that can be converted to a double berth. This berth is also 6ft 6 inches. The table is stowed against the bulkhead when not in use. Shelves and cabinets are above both the port and starboard settees. Moving forward there is a large hanging locker on the port side which is directly across from the head. A second smaller locker is next to it.
The head while not large is more than adequate. It is not so large that you get tossed from end to end while at sea, and yet still has room for a shower, sump, sink, hot / cold pressure combo faucet/shower, a shelf, cabinet space, toilet, and port.Moving forward, a built-in step and cushioned seat provide an easy step up to the large forward vee berth. The vee berth is offset to starboard. It is 6 ft 6in long at its longest. To port a large cabinet and drawer provide more storage. A large shelf area above this cabinet space connects to a smaller shelf that circles the entire vee berth. Back to specs page. | Standard Equipment | Back to Used Gulf listings.
